6 LOL-worthy Chick Shows to Binge Watch This Weekend…

The bae and I have recently moved in together and the biggest concern for his friends seems to be “Will Callum still be allowed to play Fortnite??”. Luckily for them my favourite past time is binge watching TV so I’m totally OK with him retreating to his Xbox if it means I get to watch my shows… With the cold weather heading our way, I thought I would make a list of some of my fave comedy series that either star or were created by some amazing funny gals! They’re so good that your significant other might pause their game and have a giggle with you…

Seasons to binge: 6

The Mindy Project is my current obsession – I’ve managed to binge two seasons in just over two weeks…. It stars and was created by Mindy Khaling who plays Mindy Lahiri, an OBGYN working in a small doctors practice that seems to always be struggling in the life and love department. Mindy’s always on the hunt to land the perfect guy or get herself out of a never ending stream of awkward (and pretty relatable) situations. The other characters on the show are also HILARIOUS and provide some good LOLs as they try to help Mindy sort her life out.

Where to watch: Lightbox

Seasons to binge: 7

If you haven’t seen at least one episode of 30 Rock then I don’t know where you’ve been for the past 12 years and you need to get onto it ASAP! The series is focused around Liz Lemon, the head writer and show runner for an NBC sketch comedy series called TGS. Every episode basically consists of Liz trying to keep her stars happy and the show from going under. The cast is EPIC – Tina Fey, Alec Baldwin, Tracy Morgan and Jane Krakowski just to name a few. This show had me cry-laughing on multiple occasions and is a definite must watch.

Where to watch: NEON

Seasons to binge: 1 but there’s more to come!

Frankie Shaw not only created SMILF but she also stars in, writes and directs it too! SMILF (which stands for Single Mum I’d like to F***) follows Bridgette as she tries to figure out how to be a young, single mum to her (super cute) son Larry. This show is on the slightly darker side for a comedy and a bit more drama heavy too but still incredibly funny. It’s a really good watch and I would recommend getting amongst it before season two comes out. Special mention has to go to her mum Tutu (played by Rosie O’Donnell) and her baby daddy’s Australian girlfriend who is super funny. Kiwi Gal Kim Crossman also makes a cameo.

Where to watch: NEON

Seasons to binge: 4

Probably the most risqué of the bunch so if you consider yourself to be quite wholesome it might not be for you… Broad City is like a more ridiculous (and at times a bit stupid) version of GIRLS. To summarise the series; Abbi and Llana are 20-something besties living in New York City. They get up to a bunch of ridiculous antics that often make you cringe but always make you laugh out loud. It started as a web series that got turned in to a full blown TV show and Amy Poehler is an executive producer so you know it’s gonna be a goodie!

Where to watch: Lightbox

Seasons to binge: 7

Parks and Rec is one of my favorite shows of all time. Amy Poehler stars as Leslie Knope an employee in the Parks and Recreation Department of Pawnee Indiana. It’s filmed as a mockumentary (like The Office) and literally all of the show’s characters are hilarious. Watch it from the beginning and it’s impossible not to get emotionally attached to them all. Not to mention Chris Pratt plays the show’s most loveable character Andy (second to Lil Sebastian) and you get to watch him evolve from a chubby nobody to a the super buff hottie that he is now. The show will give you all the feels and make you wish that you worked at the Pawnee Parks department. Plus it’s one of the only shows that managed to nail their final season – You’ll cry with sadness and joy when it’s all over.

Where to watch: Streaming sites don’t seem to have it at the moment but it was on Netflix for a while so hopefully it comes back!

Seasons to binge: The 7th and final season has just started in the US

Jess (played by the adorable Zoey Deschanel) has a terrible break up and moves in to a loft occupied by a bunch of guys. They end up being the coolest dudes ever and they all become the best of friends. Although the show is centred around Jess (and she’s totally awesome) the true heroes of this show are Schmidt, Nick and Winston. There’s nothing more hilarious about a bunch of guys trying to navigate living with a girl. This is a good one to watch with the bae as it’s funny, charming and the bromances are hilariously ridiculous in the best kind of way.

So there you have it! @Whoever thinks that girls aren’t funny… I just gave you 32 seasons of proof that they are. I hope that one of these suggestions can provide some good binging for you and if you have any recommendations feel free to send them my way, because at this rate I’ll be finished The Mindy Project by the end of the week… Happy binging everyone x
